The land that is now Northwood Park was once owned by Fred & Ethel Zeiler. Fred and Ethel owned the property and the 5 acres to the south that is now Dogwood Park for more than 50 years.
Fred Zeiler was a longtime barber in Clark County and only recently passed away. Ethel, now in her 90's, still lives here in Clark County.
Ethel Zeiler sold her own car to purchase the property herself, with "her own money", back when that just wasn't done by a woman. She and Fred then moved a house across town, down Fourth Plain Rd and up to the 124th Ave property to farm and raise their family.
As you can see from the picture, Fred and Ethel farmed the land that is becoming a new and diverse subdivision. They also ran cattle and housed various other animals over the years with the help of many family members. Many neighbors have commented about regularly stopping by the Zeiler's farm and generously being given produce that Fred & Ethel grew for which they would take no money.
In 2000, the Zeiler's wanted to give back to the community they loved and did so by donating 5 acres of their property to the Clark County. The new park was named Dogwood Park because of the many beautiful Dogwood trees, and is slated for future development into a full-fledged County Park. The residents of Northwood Park will have a direct access walking path leading into the park.
